Conclusion
The choice really depends on whether you want to purchase software, or a recovery service. Decryptum’s recovery service is slighly cheaper than software if you only have one file to recover, and your file and password type is supported by their service.
For software, ElcomSoft and LastBit both offer competitive products. Our preference is for ElcomSoft’s offering as it supports both Word and Excel, and also can provide VBA passwords, supports Office 2007 in the one product, and therefore appears to offer better functionality and value for money.
